Bromelia Ananas no 2

€29

The Pineapple plant is not grown for consumption but if you have patience and can wait until the fruit starts to turn orange and smell delicious then you can try taking a bite.

These exquisite drawings are by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, an artist born in Belgium in 1759 and who died in 1840 in Paris, France.

He was known for painting the most delicate looking flowers and especially roses which are considered to be some of his finest work. He was so popular that the French Queen, Marie-Antoinette asked him to be an artist in her cabinet.

He drew familiar flowers and plants but also species from around the world, including as far away as South Africa and Australia. If he could he worked from live flowers which gave his illustrations a fresh and detailed depiction.

Printed with Japanese archival ink on a matte Hahnemühle paper in our own studio in rural Copenhagen, Denmark.

Design no. 4405
