Compound Flower

€29

Spring is the season after winter and before summer. Days become longer and weather gets warmer in the temperate zone because the Earth tilts relative to its orbital plane around the Sun. In many parts of the world plants grow and flowers bloom.

These exquisite drawings are by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, an artist born in Belgium in 1759 and who died in 1840 in Paris, France.

He was known for painting the most delicate looking flowers and especially roses which are considered to be some of his finest work. He was so popular that the French Queen, Marie-Antoinette asked him to be an artist in her cabinet.

He drew familiar flowers and plants but also species from around the world, including as far away as South Africa and Australia. If he could he worked from live flowers which gave his illustrations a fresh and detailed depiction.

Printed with Japanese archival ink on a matte Hahnemühle paper in our own studio in rural Copenhagen, Denmark.
