The Lakes of Skanderborg
Delve into the timeless allure of lakes and their rich history with our thoughtfully restored collection of vintage lake maps, dating back to the 1920s and ‘30s. Each map, meticulously crafted by city planners, captures the aesthetic beauty and historical tapestry of Denmark's natural heritage.
Formed at the end of the last ice age over 10,000 years ago, the Skanderborg lake has existed in harmony with human settlers since before the Vikings.
Since the age of industrialisation, however, humans have battled against the very forces of nature that have shaped the lake for millennia.
This has led to a water level reduction of two meters below its natural state, transforming the landscape into what is now collection of smaller, interconnected lakes.
Printed with Japanese archival ink on a matte Hahnemühle paper in our own studio in rural Copenhagen, Denmark.
